Raw EDI data files you receive should be treated like any other document
your organization receives on paper, via fax, etc. That means that your
company's record retention policies should be applied. If your record
retention policies do not address electronic data, either received or
generated by your company, I strong encourage you to bring this gap to the
attention of the appropriate management so that your policies can be
appropriately amended.

Subject: [EDI-L] EDI legal requirements and Ramifications of not Archiving
EDI raw Data

Can anyone out there let me know if there are any legal requirements
and ramifications around NOT archiving raw EDI data?
What is the timeframe on an EDI doc, in its raw form, needs to be
archived before deletion?

I don't know if there are legal requirements to save the original EDI
data, we are health care industry, I don't know if SOX requires it.
But, even absent legal requirements, the original EDI data ought to be
kept for audit and dispute resolution purposes.

Any information that will help me determine if need to keep the EDI
data.

Thanks
