Wow Shan, That's a really wide open question. Are you just getting into EDI? What kind of computer infrastructure do you have now? What kind of business application will you tie into? Will you begin with a fully integrated EDI system that automatically communicates with your business app, and automatically sends and receives your EDI transactions? Will you need to accommodate web services? XML? EDIFACT? TRADACOMS? ODETTE? X12? How many trading partners will you want to exchange documents with in the next two years? Now much volume do you expect per month? What kind of communication protocols does your TP community support? Will you need AS2? VAN? FTP? Will you need to administer your system remotely?
Let's assume you are setting up EDI to accommodate one trading partner who is buying from your manufacturing company and mandates EDI, will send one PO per month per location - and he has 12 locations. He will want to send an 850, demands you send an 856 ASN and an 810 Invoice. Each PO has a maximum of 10 lines. The ASN requires no bar-code labels. Your application is QuickBooks. In that case, you could use Web-TV. You don't need any hardware at all. All you need is Softshare Athena 2.0 or something that competes with that product. Check it out at http://softshare.com/software/athena/. If you need to handle more volume, want a fully-integrated solution, more complex documents, answer back with answers to the questions in the first paragraph and we'll try to steer you in the right direction. What do you guys have as a set up for your EDI computers. We're a smaller company and I'm just trying to figure out what kind of workstation to have it on. Going out to buy something next week.
