There are also some very inexpensive server options out there you could
look at that don't cost that much more than your midlevel workstations.
If you're planning on using a remote access application like RDC or VNC
then this might be a option for you.

Others have commented that this is in the nature of a 'how long is a 
piece of string?' question. Strictly speaking that is true, but I 
understand where you are coming from.

EDI in itself is not very demanding for a PC. Many smaller firms merely 
install their EDI system on an existing workstation. If you want a 
separate machine then it normally does not need a very high 
specification. You do not need a fancy graphics card and monitor, in 
fact you can use a remote control program such as VNC and dispense with 
screen and keyboard altogether. You also do not need an expensive and 
resource consuming OS (no names, but you know what I mean).

The EDI system will quickly become an integral part of your business, so

you should choose a reliable computer from a reputable supplier, and be 
conscientious about making regular backups.
