Yes, we all had so much fun with the first episode of HIPAA
Transactions and Code Sets. What could be better than a sequel? Yep,
stay glued to your seats, boys and girls, because the Department of
Health and Human Services ("We're from the gum'mint, we're here to help
you!") is publishing the NPRM for HIPAA Standard Transactions and Code
Sets Update - henceforth known as HIPAA-2.
In a nutshell this means the X12 transactions get upgraded to version
5010, NCPDP upgrades to D.0, and introducing new transactions for
Medicaid Subrogation, Pharmacy supplies and services.
The proposed deadline for adoption is April 1, 2010. Why? Because this
will be followed by adoption of ICD-10 in October, 2011.
The rules are available for preview at the CMS website and are expected
to be formally published in the Federal Register on Friday.
