Leah,

I didn't say it was the *best* tool, but if you need to show application
usage (e.g., SAP fields), the traditional spec programs are not the best
presentation.

We have an internal, legacy mapping tool that is used by our Service
Bureau and they wouldn't know squat if I gave them a nice EDISIM IG
(even if I annotated it). They need to know--for a given
retailer--exactly what fields need to be populated to produce valid X12.

What I meant by "dumping" is that I can take something like an iDOCS
"Structure" file and -- using a bit of manipulation in a text editor --
lay that into Excel and then add the X12 cross-references.

These are not something I would send to just ANY TP, but only to one who
has this specific need. We use these pretty much internally only.

Matt

OK, gotta chime in. Please do not use EXCEL for implementation guides
to send
to your trading partners.

I've never, never, seen a good, clear, easy to read or understand IG
created in
EXCEL. Remember, these really are supposed to be human readable (notice
the dig
at XML and it's not even Friday, I'm on a roll!).

Matt, if you think you've got a good one, share it and I'll apologize if
I agree
with you.

Oh, and hey, would you please expand on this comment, I don't
understand:
"Another advantage of Excel is that you can "dump" your programmatic
mappings
into a delimited file and import that, saving you HOURS of manual
entry."
