I would try to use non-displayable characters for your control characters whenever possible. In Trusted Link iSeries you can enter them in the Trading Partner Relationship on the Specify Control Characters screen in Hex, for example I believe the default segment terminator is:
Segment terminator . . . . x'15' Character So if you wanted to use some other character you would just put the HEX value in the ‘ ‘. Here is a good hex chart for reference. http://www.asciitable.com/ Of course you will need to make sure your partners can handle what you send. I have found most of my partners can and the ones that cannot are very specific up front about what they want. Tor From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of John Sent: Monday, March 28, 2011 2:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [EDI-L] Separators in User File data I am having an inordinate amount of problems with characters that are used as control characters (Element Separator, Sub-Element Separator and Segment Terminator) being sent in the User File for outbound documents. We have customer service people all over the place and just asking them to not use several reserved characters has not worked. I was wondering what other methods have been utilized to solve or at least mitigate this issue. Not that it really matters or the purpose of my request but we are interfacing JDE with TrustedLink on an iSeries.
