GM switched to EDIFACT for Y2K (the others just said "you figure it out"). The majority of players in North American Automotive EDI still use X12, however, globalization has brought more EDIFACT into the arena. Also, interestingly, some Japanese OEMs are using a very creative version of EDIFACT, sometimes including a stray Kanji character or three.
Just a little factoid for almost Friday. AFAIK all the US automotive AFTERMARKET (NAPA, Giant, O'Reilly, Carquest, etc) use exclusively ANSI ASC X12 EDI. I haven't done automotive OEM EDI since the mid 1990's but IIRC Ford, GM, Nissan and Honda (at least) used ANSI ASC X12 at that time, too and I can't remember ANY EDIFACT for that client (Walker Muffler/ Tenneco).
