Multidimesnional scaling has been used in the layout of chips.
Graph theory has been used in understanding networks.
All kinds of QA stats (control charts, etc) are used in studying HW production,
SW production, social/psych stats are used in usability studies, customer
satifaction, needs assessment, etc.
