GREETINGS FROM SAN ANTONIO:

FOR THOSE FOLKS WHO WILL HAVE "SURVIVED" THE MANY NCTM MEETINGS, THE SAN ANTONIO  HOSPITALITY  AND
WANT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT STATISTICAL TOOLS (AND WHO ARE ABLE TO ARISE EARLY ON SATURDAY MORNING) -----

AT NCTM2003 -- ASA President, Bob Mason will present Statistical Design and Analysis of Experiments and combine with Math Presidential Awardees, Paul Foerster, Laura Niland and Linda Gann in the Minicourse -- Smooth Progression into Regression

NCTM participants are encouraged to attend BOTH sessions:

690 Friday, 11:00 am to noon  and  940, Saturday, 8:00 am to 11:00 am.

Session Type:
Regular Session

Level:

Description:
Participants will be introduced to the AP Statistics topics of completely randomized designs and randomized block designs, and shown how to plan a well-designed experiment. Several different data examples will be used to illustrate the concepts of randomization, replication, and blocking. Controlled experimentation will be contrasted with observational studies.

Session: 940

Smooth Progression into Regression: Students Can Use Regression Models

Day & Time:
Saturday
8:00AM-11:00AM

Session Type:
Minicourse

Level:
9 to 12

Description:
Participants will be introduced to the advantages of regression models as a general approach for data analysis requirements in applied research. Examples will illustrate how this approach can not only accomplish many seemingly different data analyses but provide the power to create analyses for unique research questions.

This minicourse will focus on bringing the combined power of Regression/Linear Models and Computers to students who are engaged in applied research problems.  The approach to be presented focuses on using minimum mathematics skills that students bring to the problem and introducing new concepts only as needed in the data analysis.  The philosophy is to "give the students the power they deserve"!
