Assistant Professor level (tenure-track): Data Mining and Statistics

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Central Connecticut State
University, New Britain, CT, seeks candidates for a tenure-track
position in statistics and/or data mining at the assistant professor
level.
 
Central Connecticut State University is a metropolitan university with
over 11,000 students. The Department of Mathematical Sciences
(www.math.ccsu.edu) has twenty-six full-time members, and is home to
the Master of Science program in Data Mining, the only such program in
the world to offer all courses online (www.ccsu.edu/datamining).

The Department also offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in mathematics and
mathematics with specializations in statistics, actuarial science, and
operations research, two Bachelor of Science degrees, one certifiable
for elementary teaching and one certifiable for secondary teaching,
Master's of Arts in mathematics, mathematics with specialization in
computer science,
and mathematics with specialization in statistics, actuarial science,
or operations research, and Master's of Science degrees in data
mining, and, for certified elementary and secondary teachers. The
Department is involved in several interdisciplinary collaborative
efforts with colleagues in fields
including Computer Science, the Natural Sciences, Criminal Justice,
the School of Business, and Teacher Education. Members of the
Department are actively engaged in scholarship and outreach to the
community.

Responsibilities include: teaching statistics and data mining courses,
research, and department/university Service.

Required qualification is a Doctorate in statistics, computer science
or related field.  Candidates with Doctorates in other fields may be
considered, provided they document research, teaching experience,
and/or extensive work experience in data mining.  Candidates who will
complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by August 23, 2004 may be
considered.

Preference may be given to candidates who have teaching and/or
research experience in data mining.  Strong communication skills are
also valued.
Experience teaching in an online environment will be especially
valued.
