OK, I agree that you're right, technically. And doubtless Everitt would also agree. It does seem like a quibble (as you say). I think Everitt sacrificed some precision for some clarity......Maybe this is like the variance-bias tradeoff, and Everitt went for a definition that was a little biased, but had relatively low variance ? :-)
