Text for Social Research Methods I

I am mounting a course for first year graduate students, and I was wondering if anyone had a good experience with a text.  I don't like the recommended one.  I hope to incorporate group learning with a series of small assignments.  Ideally, I will use the assignments printed at the end of the chapters.  I appreciate any assistance in this matter.
