Uros Nedic conducted an OpenSolaris Summer School in Belgrade during the month of July. Check out his report below. I've asked him to share his materials with this group too. Thanks Uros!

I learned how important is to have community and what is their potential. Final result is greater then I expected since we created one well connected group of people and many new ideas have been born. On technical side, OpenSolaris attracted many developers and smaller amount of system administrators since it has been organized at our main supercomputing center. Many developers saw potential of OpenSolaris and technologies like COMSTAR, Crossbow, IPsec, Clearview, Weak Membership, etc., and learned how to start using it. Of course DTrace and ZFS was technologies that surprised all attendants. Suggestions for future events ----------------------------- Each meeting brought more attendants than previous. Having this in mind speaker has to be always prepared for quick explanation of some topics he already did on previous meeting. It is good that for each meeting speaker prepare some overview of past topics. Also, it is important to give the attendants motivation to come in the future. It could be done by explaining what was rationale for developing some technology and how it fits in 'wider area'. I organized my school towards final topic called 'Cloud' and explained to attendants motivation for cloud from economic and technology perspective, as well. 'Cloud as a solution to current state in IT business' was my main slogan. I have some developers who were interested in HPC area. Also I dedicated to them some of my Session to explain what SUN as a software and hardware vendor could offer. Also I tried to explain how OpenSolaris fits in High Performance Computing market. DTrace was one of the flagship technologies they were interested among with SunOS architecture. Conclusion ---------- My final conclusion is that Summer School was successful project which brought new members to community and made community stronger and much more connected. I will try to make such even each year in the future. _________________________________________________________________ Share your memories online with anyone you want. http://www.microsoft.com/middleeast/windows/windowslive/products/photos-share.aspx?tab=1 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
