No matter the brand of firewall you choose to use, the main concept at an
VPN is that the firewall creates a tunnel, and in that tunnel you can pass
any protocol that you pass in a normal network.

I don't know any problem to use a firewall with iphone, since the firewall
supports VPN passthrough. You need to make a some research to discover the
kind of VPN iphone do, and, If this VPN client is compatible with L2TP.

By the way, you can install PPTP server in a Endian Box, since Endia is a
Linux distro customized to work like a secure firewall out of box.
