        add the kernel parameter clock=pmtmr to the grub, it might
help stabilize the clock enough, so ntpd can keep the clock from going
too wrong

        ntpd aborts when the clock difference is above 1000s, so if the
clock is stable enough for ntpd to keep the difference below that, sooner
or later, your clock will be close as correct
