I see EJB as a technology that will enable vendors that were previously
stuck in small niches
(i.e. inventory management software that runs on AS/400s) to have a shot at
the larger
market. "Port your software once, to EJB," my thinking goes, " and then
you've got
a much wider potential customer base." I'd expect that such vendors will
probably
write their own front ends and then sell a package of services involving
installation,
customization, and ongoing maintenance.

Is generalized business component reuse possible? I expect that the main
limitation
is that, to paraphrase a previous poster, every business wants their
software to do
exactly what they want it to do. There certainly _are_ companies today that
sell
integrated accounting/HR/whatever packages that can be tweaked to fit
a particular business. I'd expect that this is where EJB will really hit big
in the
near term. In the long term, maybe the fact that reusable components _can_
exist
will help to gel a common set of services.
