I don't think you can speak for Sun. I'm sure you can request a J2EE RI license
from Sun. On a case-by-case it should be possible. That is assuming that its is
even done the correct way. But it's obvious that there some pretty sick people
out their who would not even do it the right way.
Some sick nuts would just try to disassemble it ;-)

If their selling the license to iPlanet they can sell it to other companies too.
You would need to have some experience with Joint Ventures to intelligently
comment on this.
