The UID class is itself the unique key (it is composed of several numbers).
You can get a string representation of it by calling .toString ( ). Or
generate a hexadicemal string representation by writing one of your own
methods to do the conversion. Alternatively to UID look at
java.rmi.dgc.VMID (posted by Jose). This class combines a UID with the IP
address to increase uniqueness across the network.
Take a look at the Java source code for these classes to get an idea of how
they work and familiriase yourself with the concepts.
