I think it is smart, Microsoft makes Java sort of a sub-product of .NET Of course you can write Java, but everything that comes out of this box will be subject to Microsoft rulez, which in the long run means that they make money with it, and probably add some stuff that won't work on something else then the dreaded Windows-platform.
