Yes, probably. The client jars used to access app servers don't seeem to be
thread safe. I only have direct experience of jboss, but from posts to this list
it seems to be the case for other app servers too.

It's not unreasonable for the servers to do this - obviously they could benefit
from caching resources such as tcpip sessions, and they don't serialize access
to the cache because this is slow and not always needed. So you'd need to
serialize your calls if you were sharing a remote ref between clients and that
is probably an unacceptable performance hit.
