Thanks for pointing that out Joe. I should probably have used a better word. By proprietary, I was simply meaning that it's not as common an interface as an RS232 port, and two 3.5mm audio jacks. Almost everyone has stereo patch cables and perhaps a straight DB9 serial cable laying around. Not many might have a DIN 5 plug. At least I don't. :)
