Mike, We need more information - there are a lot of possibilities.
It sounds like you do not have enough audio drive to the K3. How have you connected to the K3? Are you connecting to the K3 Line-in from the soundcard Line-out? Are you using an interface box or just a soundcard? If you are using an interface box, have you configured it for line level output - most come configured for microphone level which is a much lower AF voltage than line level. You must drive the audio to the K3 sufficiently high to produce 4 bars on the ALC meter with the 5th bar flashing. Ignore the common advice (valid for other radios) to use the audio level to produce your desired output - with the K3, set the power level with the power knob and adjust the audio drive to produce the 4 to 5 bars of ALC indication.
