I agree. My question was "why bother with a report at all?" Wayne suggested it bought time for the operator to log the contact. Might be true.
On reflection, Ham QSO's have included the name/report/QTH format for so many years (certainly back into the 1920's) that I suppose it makes sense to keep the convention to avoid questions that extend the QSO unnecessarily, even if the report is meaningless. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- \ I think the rationale behind the 599/59 report is in the interest of saving time and maximizing contacts.
