Btdt: use SAL-MET flux after carefully filing/scraping a target bare spot on the shell. XACTO the boot carefully if needed to expose a target spot. SAL-MET works on every substance I've attempted, including stainless steel. I've kept the same bottle of the stuff around since the '60s when I bought it. Algalw.
