Jeff, That message is telling you that you are using an old version of K3 Utility, and that older version does not support the newer K3 firmware load.
Just download the latest version of K3 Utility and all should be OK. Go to http://www.elecraft.com/K3/software/K3_Utility_Setup_1_4_10_11.exe to download it.
