Good Afternoon,
Tomorrow I will be attending a graduation (hooding actually) party for
a friend of ours. It is not often folks get the doctorate so I will be
missing the appointed hour of 2300z for the first time due to absence. I
was in a dither about what to do. Should I run the 20 meter net late?
Should I call upon someone to act as NCS while I am in absence? Hmmm...
I have been trying to figure out what to do since yesterday when I found
out the date had been confused. We thought it was today but we were
wrong.
While banging out code (Java this time) I was listening to some Bach,
the Brandenburg Concerto #2 to be specific, when a thought occurred to
me. Unlike Bach this is not too Baroque ;) Why not have one or more of
you folks get on 14050 kHz at 2300z and call CQ ECN? The more I thought
of this the better it felt -- thus a plan, albeit ad hoc, has come to be.
One or more of you, trying not to cause too much confusion in the
pileups, call CQ ECN and see how it goes. As you tire of calling folks
let someone else try their fist. Pass NCS control around or simply let
the replying person call the next CQ ECN. What ever is more comfortable
for the two in contact with one another. Either post the attendees to
this Reflector or send the results to me for my submission. I think you
all can enjoy the contacts and see how it goes. You may even enjoy my
absence ;)
So tomorrow ECN will exist in a variational form. See what works but
please meet at the appointed hour and frequency to see who you can hear
and who can hear you. Weather, RST, family, kids, barbeque, whatever is
normal for you please relate it. New folks are welcome as always but
remember this is free form so go with the flow.
Join the fun at :
Sunday 2300z (Sunday 4pm PDT) 14050 kHz
I will be back later in the evening on Sunday so please write me an
email about how it went from your perspective. I hope you all have fun
and get to meet new Elecraft owners.
73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator in Absentia)
