Bill,

The front-most pin is the ground pin, and is the one that provides more mechanical stability than any of the others - So if it is mechanical stability you are after, re-solder all 8.

There is a tiny bit of looseness in the jack mounting to its grounding lug due to the mechanical assembly of the jack itself. That is not normally a problem even though it is bothersome to some. if it maintains good electrical contact with the plug, you might want to leave it alone.
