This is wrong:

  Even though a wide filter lets in a lot of noise
  the DSP can get rid of it.

The WSJT software is a DSP.

It has it's own filters and the DSP on the K3
is not needed.

So the only job of the K3 is to produce a clean
wideband signal for the WSJT.

You would still have to prevent overload
by what ever means.
