Gavin, The K2 uses a single voltage-variable capacitance (varicap) diode-tuned crystal filter on the main RF board, and the filter bandwidths are programmable by the user within a moderate range. A separate fixed bandwidth crystal filter is present on the KSB2 SSB option board if installed. A "no additional equipment" procedure for adjusting the variable bandwidth filter is described in the K2 manual, but most operators use a computer-based spectrum analysis tool (e.g. Spectrogram) to visualize the filter passband while the tuning adjustment is being made. Check out Don, W3FPR's web page (http://w3fpr.com/) for a link to the free versions of Spectrogram and tips on adjusting the K2 filter settings for different modes and desired bandwidths.
