Thanks to all for their information and suggestions. I'm currently in Italy with the KX3 and after dinner this evening we'll try some I/ CW QRP operation.
Probably the best result of my query has been the chance to meet with some local hams and enjoy a meal with them--this is such a great brotherhood....both the ham radio brotherhood and the Elecraft brotherhood.
