I tried this several years ago.  It worked for a while, but at times it went
into keyer mode.  Don't remember exactly what I got, or why,  but I couldn't
use it.  I havn't had trouble switching from bug to keyer because the bug
has a much heavier action and that acts as a "tell" to get me in the correct
mode.  I now think that I would have trouble using a keyer in semiauto mode.
I would have to set it up like a bug with respect to tension and gap.  These
days, I only use my paddles portable, as the Vibroplex Original is a little
heavy to travel with.  My hand keys tend to be on the large size also.
