Jim,

I think you will find the KPA500 transformer to be quite robust, but of course there is always a small chance that you have one that could be defective. If you can monitor the DC voltage under load, that would be revealing. Contact k3sup...@elecraft.com or Jack Brindle (he has already responded to you and is one of the KPA500 designers).
