Werner, OE9FMV asked: ...when I watch the ALC meter I get the less ALC lights the higher the band. With 10m there is most of the time no ALC LED at all, or only 1 section is lighting. Is this normal?
------------------- Yes. As you know, the number of ALC bars represents how much the gain is being reduced to keep the transmitter peak output power to whatever you have set with the POWER control knob. The K2's transmitter stages have less amplification on the higher bands. That's why you see less maximum power when you transmit, key down, in CW mode on 10 meters compared to the lower bands. Most K2's have maximum gain at about 40 meters. So, as you compare the ALC action transmitting SSB on the various bands, you'll see that proportionately less ALC is needed on the higher frequencies. As long as one ALC bar flashes occasionally on 10 meters at full power, you have all the mic gain you need and are getting full output.
