Any off the shelf stereo to mono splitter will do that. That also gives cleaner 
bias for the mic. Details in this blog post.

On the KX3, PTT does not need to be across the rings. Ring 2 (logic ground) is 
tied to the shield (audio ground) inside the radio. I hear that the KX2 is 
wired the same as the KX3.
