You count "passages through the hole" as turns in all cases with toroid cores.  A straight wire thru the donut is one turn.  I can't answer your question ["does it make a difference?"] because I don't have a K1, but I did build a K2, and based on that, I think the answer is "Yes, it will make a difference."
