Concur. The K3 can in my experience be vulnerable to voltage drop which can happen with a questionable power source.
For a rig like the K3 you should draw straight from the battery. The cigarette plug is not directly connected to the battery. There is likely to be poor connections resulting in IR losses and other problems.
