I still enjoy my K1, too. A favorite qso was going to a nearby park in
Delaware, stuck a wire in the back, tuned and qso'd with an op in France.
I always liked the K1 ad quoting a compliment by a Heathkit chief
engineer, Mike Elliot w8kkr, preserved here:
