"My KPA500 is showing 57-58 VDC at 450-500 watts out, and 71-72 VDC on rx."

That's a much smaller spread than I see with my KPA500.  Are you powering from 
240 VAC or 120 VAC?  Running on nominal 120 VAC I have my RX PA volts currently 
reading 81.8 and it still sometimes sags  just below 60 V on TX.

Note that the drop is not related only to power output but is a function of 
total PA input power.   PA efficiency varies with band, output power, and 
antenna match.
