I really don't know what the big deal is about Signalink. I have a non-USB K3 and have used it for FT8 as well as SSB contesting with just the internal sound card of my computer for over 15 years. I have also used inexpensive ($10) external USB sound cards when the internal sound card doesn't have separate line in and Microphone inputs. My desktop machine has separate inputs, but my laptop doesn't.
