I've picked up old analog VTVMs for a buck or two at hamfests and converted them to FET op amps in place of the tubes. Zero drift/warm up and all the advantages of an analog meter that runs on a 9v battery.
-------------------------------------- For peaking adjustments, even some of the cheap(er), slower DMMs like the Radio Shack I mentioned have a relative level scale - a row of dots below the numbers - that moves according to changes in the voltage or current level. That scale works quite fast to show a peak or dip even though the numeric display takes a few seconds to update. It's something I recommend one look for if they are going to rely on only their DMM for making adjustments.
