I?m considering wiring up the KX3 RX I/Q to my computer for a wider
spectrum view, but the latest LP-PAN sound card tests I can find online are
almost a decade old, and the Behringer model they suggest (UMC202HD) seems
to be discontinued or at least sporadically stocked.
Does anyone have a sound card they recommend for interfacing the KX3 RX
I/Q? Behringer does have newer models with 192 kHz sample rate but they?re
significantly pricier.
The Behringer UMC202HD is available from stock from sources like Amazon,
at least at this side of the pond. It has a low noise level, excellent
dynamic range and can do 192kHz sampling.
It is supported by Win11 and MacOS.
It also has an "audio output" and headset output that can be used at the
same time, independent with the two I/Q inputs.
Given that it is available (and the price has dropped, at least over
here!) it would still be my prime choice. The disadvantage is that it
has about the same size as the KX3 radio itself.
Some time ago, I got a Creative E-MU 0202 with the purchase of a LP-PAN
box. The E-MU is not only out of production, it depends on a driver that
I could not get working on Win11. For me it is a doorstop and I got an
UMC202HD instead.
I would still recommend the Behringer today. It will not be available
forever, but it is available today, it is supported by today's computers
and works well. What is not to like?
