Mine turned out that way as well, and I've advised folks to be aware
of it before they put the front panel on "for good" so they can put a
piece of tape across the top to mask it if it bothers them.

I don't know if it's "normal", Bill, but my K2 does the same thing. It's
serial #1299 and the "problem" is visible when the rig is higher than
eyesight, so I don't consider it a problem. In fact, I kinda like it --
reminds me that this amazing radio is a kit. One has to marvel at it all the
more for the fact that I put it together!
