Welcome to the world of SW. In this day, more of the functionality of a circuit is often done in software, and that software can be very complex. In fact, SW in general is far more complex than hardware just because it can be. Complex hardware takes development time, board real estate and pushes parts counts up. Complex software only takes development time.
