Those are exactly right, Chris. The seven-segment display is limited in how it can display alpha characters. That's why the odd spacing and assortment of upper and lower case. After all, it's normal use is to display numbers.
You get to CAL by going to AtU, then press/hole MENU to go to the second level and rotate the tuning knob to find CAL.
