The Heil web site has audio clips you can compare. Yes, there is a huge difference in the way they sound. One is almost broadcast quality wide range and the other in pinched into the most productive frequencies. It sounds harsh but gets through better. Some of the Heil mics have a switch so you can go back and forth but you can't do anything (within a small range with the equalizer) to change them.
