First of all thanks to Tony (K2ZLS) for his initial posting which gave me the chance to post my ideas i am working on. Also thanks for all the constructive input.
Please let me explain what my idea is, to prevent any misunderstanding... ;o) What this should NOT be about, is to work against Elecraft ! So what ever method we will use to get the information into the K3 should be along the offical path... Our methods can evolve with the development of the K3 firmware. Maybe our work is able to support Simon and the Elecrafters to develop an even more impressive Hard/Software combination. Here is my summarization of your emails: --------------- I think we all agreed to use XML for the interchange format. There are many tools, libraries, ... available for the most common languages and IDEs used on different OperatingSystems. If David (PA3HBB) would make a webpage to handle the XML-File (even converting to/from HTML, ASCII,...? by using XSLT) anyone would be free to develop tools in her/his preferred environment. Also a central Database, accessible via web, to collect and manage (merge ?) the different configurations would be possible (David ?). ---------------- Dick (K6KR) gave us a little 'warning' about the complexity... ---------------- Based on the current available CAT commands, deleting memories will not be possible. Only overwriting one/all memories with a defined value will be possible ---------------- To start with the configuration should be easy. The memories may need a bit investigation (as Dick mentioned...) ---------------- We have to be more precise how we will handle different firmware level of the K3. Is it possible to include different firmware level into one XML-config-file ? ---------------- .... Each XML-File should contain these fields: version of the used XML-File-Definition lowest supported K3 firmware highest supported K3 firmware .... 73 de Thomas, DM7TN Thomas, DM7TN K3/100 #78 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
