I too am a CW operator but I greatly prefer the sidetone NOT track with the AF gain control. I want them separate so that I can adjust the mix on the fly. Rather than trying to adjust sidetone volume, I set it and leave it alone. If I want more sidetone, I turn the AF gain down which is simple rather than trying to turn the sidetone up.
