If it were me, I'd follow the assembly instructions as closely as I could. If the assembly instructions said "install latest firmware at this point" I'd do that.
The calibration procedures that were the most time-consuming and error-prone are now automated. Synthesizer cal was always done by the K3 internally, and the Tx Gain calibration can be done with an assist from the K3 Utility (it's on the Config tab).
