You'll need to run the synthesizer and Tx Gain calibrations and set the filters as a minimum. The synthesizer calibration is performed almost automatically (just start it), and the Tx Gain and Filter configuration have some help from the K3 Utility, see the configuration page.
The front panel contains the MCU, which is where all this stuff is stored. The owner's manual does say, in the description of the Front Panel and DSP: "The Front Panel also contains a large amount of EEPROM memory for parameter storage, and FLASH memory for program storage. This allows the K3 to be re-programmed with the newest firmware by a simple download from the Internet. It also enables the K3 to remember your favorite settings, particularly configuration preferences, and the last setting of controls when power is removed from the radio." I'd encourage you to save your configuration periodically as a matter of habit. Certainly right after making a major change (like building the radio, installing a new "option" like a KPA3 or filter) or just before installation of beta firmware. I received a new front panel board today and just installed it and it has fixed the problem. Thanks for speedy shipping of the part! I took a chance and repaired the radio right before the ARRL DX SSB contest. Yeah I know better but I wanted the radio to be perfect for the contest. I would not have done the repair if I was super serious about the contest. Just a heads up for anyone else that would ever have to replace this board. Save your settings as you will need to set up the radio again, filters, VCO etc. I should have thought of this first and saved my settings but I didn't. I don't know if some of the settings and calibrations would still need to be done. I have not checked the power or the S meter yet. Maybe Elecraft could include a sheet that warns you on what to expect when replacing this board and what you should do calibration wise after.
