Jack,

Transmitting between 7.5 and 9 MHz is not permitted because we have to  
enforce a minimum frequency distance from the 8.2 MHz IF (and its  
associated IF rejection trap on the KANT3 or KAT3 module). An excluded  
first IF region is a fundamental limitation of a down-conversion  
design. The TS-480 can transmit in this range because it uses up- 
conversion; we used down-conversion to provide much better receive  
performance and allow for narrow crystal filters.

The only way around it would be to use an external transverter. I can  
give you details if you're interested.

The K3 will work well on all other MARS frequencies within its tuning  
range.
